Babbling Bubbles

It was a gloomy evening on the last day of weekend, which could be a perfect time to bingewatch pretty little liars on the bed. The house was all clean so there's still plenty of time to get lazy. All of sudden, my husband asked me whether I want to go out or not. It was cloudy outside and started to rain. But it did not stop him to take me to the nearest mall after all.
Contrast from what we usually did; instead of going back and forth between ace hardware and informa and a visit to gramedia, we just strolled around purposelessly. I remember that there is soft opening of hokkaido ice cream puff in there so we managed to get one:
Hokkaido vanilla ice cream puff

If I am not mistaken, I ever watched Paolo from Tokyo reviewed this street food on one of his videos. And he is right, it tasted heaven.
Like, really.
Definitely we will come back to get this again next time to try another flavor. I am a bit curious about the matcha ice cream one actually.
As we just walked through the memory lane, we bumped into this street food that we used to have when we dated back then.
Spicy honey korean chicken

Like, if they have a membership card surely we reach the gold membership :p because we purchase this bowl loaded of goodness everytime we got into the mall.
Yes, we always have a date at the mall before because hello this is Jakarta. We happened to get some sweat at Taman Suropati or try out the hypest coffee shop in town at times, but the food sometimes is not that decent. We just love the food in the mall :p
That is how we gain some weight in a short period of time :p

These are some meals that we never miss everytime we hang out: (meal that match our tastebud)

There's discount offered for bca credit and debit card holders

Coco Ichiban-ya Curry

Ikkudo Ichi - Tori Kara Miso Ramen

The last two pictures are the food that I really miss so much because I moved in to another place that is so so faraway from the restaurants. I hope that they manage to open their branch near to our house soon.

Xx

PS: On our way home he told me the reason behind he took me at the mall. He felt sorry for keeping me with the housework during weekend instead of 'doing our thing' like we used to do. Actually that thought never crossed my mind before, I mean I prefer to be in front of PC at my leisure time, spending no cash but time. But anyway it was just kinda sweet knowing that he put an effort to entertain me in a way <3

There is no doubt that there will be obstacles along the way in planning the wedding. I will guarantee that no matter how hard you plan your wedding, there is always certain percent that your plan goes the wrong way.
In my case, chaos came from make up options. I guess for Indonesian brides nowadays, we take make up really serious. Wedding makeup always be on the top of the list after catering and venue. Just blame all the beauty vloggers on youtube and instagram 😛
First thing, I put disclaimer here:
I do not have the intention to make the vendor’s reputation bad or something, but I am here want to review my experience and just not into the result. Nonetheless, her hands made other brides look beautiful and flawless, even my senior who have used her service told me that her work is beyond her expectation. This post is fully based on my personal preference as a client, and if whoever read this is not in the same boat with me, that is totally fine. I am not an expert in this anyway 🙈
I think a soft, natural glow with a pinky blush suits best for bridal makeup.

I mean, I want this kind of bridal makeup.
Pic taken from @lawralovefaith

However, I did not get that for my prewedding session.

Soo I have been eyeing this MUA. Her studio is in Yogyakarta but she welcome job from clients from other city, even she ever flew to Sulawesi to make up her bride.

She got several jobs in my hometown too, meaning that she must be already familiar with this town.
Her work is well known for the long lasting and long wearing makeup. When nowadays the brows are statement, she could draw it naturally without making it too thick.
The price is moderate, not too cheap nor too expensive; and not like any other make up vendor who give additional fee for clients from other city, she take charge for accomodation and transportation only.
And what makes her look more convincing is, she often got a job from medical faculty graduates. Oh well, is that even relatable? This might sound ridiculous, but in Surabaya, the medical faculty graduates always choose the best MUA and the best kebaya for their graduation ceremony. Knowing that she is noticeable among the priyayi class, I decided to hire her as my prewedding and wedding MUA.

Although I found out later that her name was not on my photographer’s MUA partner list, I still wanted her to make up my pre-wedding session. Considered that as a makeup trial, I agreed on paying the excess because of using a non-partner MUA.

Then the day has come.

The second best MUA in Yogyakarta (confirmed by her hair stylist) is not exaggerating though. She did a great job for my eyebrow. I love the way she overdrew my thin lips.

But contrast from what I want, the result looks matte and heavy, far from terms 'natural and glowing'.
She had me wear stila lipstick in pink but then she topped it with nyx matte lip cream in shade london for finishing. In result, my lips’ colour got darker and darker over time.
No highlighter on my face and the worst part, the contouring was just off.
Perhaps that combination made my mom said that I looked several years older. At first I got offended but when I scrolled over my prewedding photos, I could not agree more with her.

I already had communicated what kind of look I want to be (dewy and stuff) but I think it is just her style that is different from what I want. I scrolled over her portfolio on Instagram and turned out that some of her round and square shaped face clients ended up just like me, looking freaking older than her real age. But she did real fine with her clients with normal shaped face.

In a photo (not uploaded here of course) edited by photographer, I figure out that my lips are black.

Meanwhile, in between our conversation during makeup, she told me that she never took any makeup class before. She learnt all that by herself. And I was like ‘whaaaaaat?’
I mean, she comes in a high rate and she never took any professional makeup classes?
Insane.

I am a believer when it comes to a career, we have to be certified by taking certain professional classes in order to master its sector. It is like WMI for investments or CPA for accounting.
Later I found out from my junior in high school (who used to be her client) that she regretted for hiring her. My junior have a round chubby face--just like me, and she told me that she is satisfied enough with the akad make up, but she dislike the reception makeup. In my own observation, she looked older because she retouched her lips with brown-ish lipstick and blush.
I mean, who in the earth want brown lips for their wedding? okay maybe some, but it IS a bridal makeup and you know that you are forbidden to do experiment with  your bride. For me, brown or purple lipstick is a big NO for a wedding. Even if you come as a guest at that moment.
After a few chit chats, we agreed that her work made us look older. She encouraged me to hire another vendor and let go the DP I have paid for the wedding because you know, marriage (expect to be) happened once in a life time and you do not want to look older in your wedding photos.

Finally 5 months before the due date I cut her off without a doubt 😅

I know that I could not compare wedding makeup to prewedding makeup. Since I got proofs from comparing her works to some photos of people that I secretly follow on instagram to actually see their bare face, I determined to do so without telling her the truth--the bitter truth that I was not sure about her work anymore. Blame that javanese blood.

Yet, this story will not finish here. I got a lot of to tell soon about my wedding makeup and the drama that follows.

PS: Her makeup technique is getting much better these days so no need to worry if I wanna use her service again. But remind me that I have to reserve long day before because as I mentioned above, she is one of the best MUA in town.

In this social media era, especially on instagram and pinterest, wedding ceremony could be looked more appealing than in reality. Fabricated in the form of photos beautifully captured by professional photographers and packed with a good preparation, there is no surprise that it look mesmerizing and alluring until the point that some people get inspired by it, including me. Of course, this phenomenon impact wedding business too. Over-glorified by all the glitters presented on social media, there will be some opportunists that take it for granted. So you should be more selective in hiring wedding vendors.

There is another challenge when it comes to prepare your wedding. You have to be balance between the needs vs what-you-want-your-wedding-to-be vs what your-family-want-your-wedding-to-be 😂. Besides all the drama that might follows, you have to be careful in choosing the right vendors to bring out your concept and everything in your mind to reality and suits your character well. Equally important, choosing the right vendors might save you some bucks to splurge on after married life, tell ya later. As for me, it could be more challenging because my hometown happened to be in a suburban with limited lists of credible vendors.
Speaking of it, wedding vendors might be tricky in a way you could not imagine. So here the tips to find the professional wedding vendor for your special day (in general):

1
Define a concept that you want. Whether you want your makeup to be matte or dewy finish, bold or soft makeup, traditional or modern look, what kind of tradition you have to follow (we have Javanese or Sundanese here for example), garden party or hall, flowy or gown dress,on a strict budget or all you can-afford type, you decide. Knowing your priority is very important at the first place since it can make you more focus in filtering the vendor lists. I don't do photography but all brides face these options :

Do you want your wedding photos be touched by this tone ..

or this tone?

2.
Do a deep research.
Observe the local vendor first.
If there is no any particular vendor you would like to work with, you can consider the sister city tenants like, if I am gonna hold wedding party in Solo, I will consider vendors from Yogya. But this decision has consequences too. You have to consider the additional costs : two ways airplane/train tickets, their transportation from their home to the airport,  the accommodation, and sometimes they give additional charge for clients from other city.

3.
Reviews from your friend is important. You do not get enough information from the internet, except the vendor is already famous so there will be local wedding forums mention their name.
Becareful with wedding vendors that presented in one group owned by a wedding organizer. Once again, do a deep research. So I have been through this: once in a while I talked to local wedding photographer and he offered his WO service providing the decor, special effects and stuff by giving example of party they had organized. Luckily he mentioned my friends name as his client. It will not take time to confirm it to that-not-so-close-friend and turn out she just used only his photographer service, she took decor service etc to other people and not him. Later I found out that this wedding organizer, led by him, did fraud here and there.*

4.
Survey the price list and read the terms and conditions carefully. Do not hesitate to ask the very specific details you nee to know until you get a clear view about the whole thing related to the contract.
One thing for sure there are too many wedding vendors who do not have the intention to run the business professionally. I do not think they see this business as a sustainable income for the future because most of them make the contract carelessly and in some cases, they could be as deceiving as abang bajaj. Yea, that is the exact term to describe what I am feeling while facing these people. At first you hail bajaj and he come close to you. You mention the place you are going to go without bidding the price, then you will be surprised once you arrive to your destination—The bajaj bill can be twice higher than you take taxi ride. If you do not make the contract crystal clear upfront, wait until they change it on their own selfishly in the end. I learnt that the hard way* The most simple prove is, there were only 2 from many of my vendors who give invoice and receipt (proof of payment) to me. How come they do not give a single receipt while you pour their bank account with million rupiah ?!

5.
After you get the price list here and there, make a list. Define which vendor with more reasonable price and better output, which one that have best reviews based on internet and testimonials from your relatives—which one you would like to work with. In addition, assess their attitude in handling customer (which is you I am talking about) using your own instinct. But most importantly, adjust all of that to your existing budget.

6.
Do not in a rush in hiring vendors. Even though the clock is ticking and you better deal the vendor as early as possible because you do not want to lose it to someone else, make sure you get enough supporting data.  Please do think three, four times if it is necessary since mostly once you pay the down payment you can not take it back if you change your mind.

7.
Finally, you can choose the best one 

I know sometimes this wedding thingy could be overwhelming. One thing to keep in mind is that there will be many obstacles along the way and the outcome won’t be exactly like you want it to be.  It feels like the universe is against you. But all you need to do is to chill. Remember, there is always a plan B (until Z) to everything. Regardless your wedding went perfectly or not, the fact that you finally tied the knot to your spouse and he vowed to love you for the rest of his life are the true essential of the wedding itself.

In the last few months I have spent my money to something that was not working at all. I talked to myself to stop and breathe and think before swiping or transfering some amount to other account but you could say that it is just my (bad) luck after all.
These impulsive habits somehow leave me with less cash to survive in the end of the month besides that tons of money I blew up everytime my friends ask me to go out on weekend.

There was one time I gradually checked on groupon website if there were any good offerings. I often score some good deals ie. discount on dairy queen and sour sally 😝 Later, I ended up on this ‘discount on certain facial treatment at miracle clinic’ page.
I am not so fond of facial treatment but when I looked at this page I thought ‘why not?’ Without checking it further I assumed that it was the so-called-miracle-clinic-thats-famous-in-Surabaya therefore I purchased it for two people.
 Yepp.
At first I thought it was the soft opening promo at Supermal Karawaci so I went there, but after few rounds it took me minutes to realize that it actually was not there. It was located to a pretty luxury housing near the mall. By the time I got to the actual place, I was so disappointed since it was a totally different clinic and appeared to be a sketchy one with a small waiting room.
I did not think twice to leave that place 😂 I would rather let the coupon expired than get my face to be treated by some random yet unprofessional therapist.

Another bad things I ever experienced are caused by reserving train tickets and hotel via apps recklessly.

... I reserved on the wrong date. Twice.

Even in the end I could manage the cancellations for train tickets and cost me 25% of the price, unfortunately the same thing did not work for hotel bookings. So there was one time I managed to book some hotel rooms for my family in Semarang. I got a mini heart attack when the hotel review request suddenly pop up on my screen. Why should I add review when the stay is still on the next three days? But after having discussion with the receptionist and the apps call center, I could not get my money back 💸. I had to pay a freakin' hotel room that I did not even use. Poor me ☹️

To be concluded, to manage your own money is a thing, but to be careful in spending every penny you have is just another thing you should master at in adulthood 🙂

Tapi, dasar orang jawa.

... Untung tak dapat diraih, malang tak dapat ditepis.
Jam menunjukkan pukul 12.40 ketika rombongan memasuki kota Sampang.

Rontok hati saya 💔

Pun dengan teman pengantin saya, melihat kita dengan muka masam alih-alih sumringah.

Sehebat itukah kami sampai bisa membuat acara pernikahan seseorang berantakan?

...

.....

.......

Langsung nafsu makan saya hilang.

Syukurlah kami sampai sana tepat waktu sampai boarding meski flight saya delay banget sampe jam 22.10, walhasil sampe rumah jam 01.20 an :))))

----------
Sepanjang perjalanan saya merenung.
Coba kalau kita menekan ego masing-masing.

I blew tons of energy and money every time I do this bridesmaid thingy. I do not want to brag or else but please remember I put a lot of effort to just come to your reception and give you handshake; congratulate you in person and I hope you simply appreciate that.

After all, I feel bad and deeply sorry for missing her reception moment 😔 I really do.

Well it is been a while since the last post that I posted earlier this year.
It is almost 3 years I work in insurance area, but I never post any insurance-related regardless some words 'actuaria' I ever mentioned on the previous posts.
And no, I will not begin this paragraph by telling you the definition of life insurance and all that theory.

Far before I sent applications on insurance company, I as a college student contemplated further about life; tried to predict what (other) disaster may come in the future even though life has never been worse at that time. I and my family was struggling over monthly bills and even found it hard to afford meals. Fyi, my mom as a primary breadwinner in the family has to work day and night, nonstop, to feed us her children. However, even though my sisters have finished college, I could say that they were not independent yet that time so in short, my family was economically unstable. That is how I learn that government campaign saying 'Dua Anak Cukup' is pretty relatable.

Deep inside, the visionary me try to guess the worse thing could happen next because no one knows what the future holds. I was concern on what I have to do when mom get sick, because, yes, I know she is a very strong, unbeatable woman nonetheless she is only human. I was afraid that mom will die prematurely due to unexpected illness or accident. How we live after that is unimaginable because we had no cash, no investment; nothing. I had no idea how I got the money to pay the hospital and medical bills, even funeral expenses if that happens. That is why I decided to finish my study real quick so I could get my first job to be independent financially.

... Later I found that the younger me has already thought about the concept of life insurance.

Once I realize how important it is to have life insurance policy, I do not have to think twice to purchase it. It is an emergency fund that covers my family (in this case, my mom) when certain risks happen to me, as I mention above, such as illness or death. Because you know, both of them is unavoidable. Insurance policy secure my family's financial future, something that unfortunately my parents never think of. Regardless you are single or married, I believe that everyone needs one. The younger and the healthier you buy, the cheaper you get the premium. Considering if you have family or kids or planning a marriage or loans or business to take care of, then do not hesitate to have one. But if you live undeniably whealthy, you can skip reading this post :p.

The main problem is, generally people procrastinate to have one until they are being pushed to by any unpleasant situation. On the lowest level of the understanding of the need of life insurance, I think that I do not have to burden my family if I will die someday because the benefits cover my funeral and burial costs. Because admit it, burial expenses and some tradition that follows it  costs up to Rp 10.000.000 in average, although the amount depends on where you live and what culture you are in. In addition, if I live until the end of insurance period, I will receive certain amount of cash; consider it as a bonus for the older me. And that is called cash value life insurance. Depending on the purpose, there are many kind of life insurance policies, but I will explain it later.

The story will be different if you are too old to live. Experts said, life after retirement would not be that easy because you no longer have periodic income while you still have family or mortgage or any other debts to take care of. The life insurance provided by employer seems to have a good benefit, but in fact as the needs grow over time, it does not cover them enough. Moreover, you could not rely on that since it is not allowed to take the policy with you once you decided to put a resignation letter. That is why you need additional coverage besides employer provided life insurance to fill the gap.

Therefore, through both beneficiary and policy holder's perspective, to buy insurance policy is the highest way to show your love towards your family, since people have to ensure their loved ones will be financially supported if anything happens.

I might say that 2016 is one of the best year I've ever had. It's been a year of ups and downs indeed, but I would like to admit that I enjoyed any of it. I began my 2016 by staying in Pahawang, Lampung doing snorkeling, watching the sun to set while drinking coconut water right from the coco shells etc etc. Followed by a couple visits to hospital and another series of unfortunate events related to work, I still managed to make some short getaways tho :p.

Mambruk, Anyer - Purwokerto - Ciledug, Cirebon - Yogyakarta - Kalianda, Lampung -

Singapore - KL - Surabaya - Bandung - Semarang - Palembang - Malang - Ponorogo

Let say one of the achievement I couldn't be proud of more was, I finally scored A10-Financial Math module and won a stay-cation voucher at some villa in Bogor because I got the 1st rank in class. Maybe for some people it was easy breezy especially when you able to convert your A-to-B score of financial math in college to get A-10. Then you don't even bother to take exam or extra class to pass A-10.
However, I should take it because I got 'D' on my transcript.
Yes, I repeat, 'D'.
I know it really is a bad score, like, your lecturer try to say that you were too dumb to take the class.
Even my close friends thought that I deserved D score too. I admit that I used to skip some classes due to my double degree but in this case I attended the classes and did all the homeworks, even I joined study club outside the class. The weird thing was, when the final score came up, I and my friends in class of 2010 got D (there were 5 people at the moment, we happened to take junior [2011] financial math class) and students in class of 2011 got various score from A to B.
Well, see the difference?

In addition, the final exam was really difficult so I was 100% sure no one in that class weren't able to do it. I knew later that the exam was taken from PAI* and most of them were from Society of Actuary--which is well known for their no. 1 difficulty level of math so here's the question, how come you expect us to get a good score while the handbook was made by the lecturers themselves and the materials they taught wasn't that far from the handbook either? How come class of 2011 could get A-B score and we, class of 2010 happened to get D ? Clearly you see one of the example of the subjectivity in my Institution.
In contrast, in the middle of 2016 I retook Financial Math class held by PAI* itself and the lecturers are from Gadjah Mada University. He used 'The Theory of Interest' book for the reference and taught very clearly. I bet the ones who got A to B score in my previous class in college don't know how to calculate NPV, reinvestment rate, ammortization, or even annuity in depth.
Once I received my A score transcript, this flashback popped in mind and for instance I can't help the urge to rub it on my friends' face.

It's been 5 years already but I couldn't forget, or even forgive about this. I've been judged unfairly with my friends and lecturers. I was so pissed at the point that I believe there's much better education out there so I decide to take higher degree other than in my previous college. I didn't mean to brag but rather than underline the point about mistreatment I got from my lecturer who was happened to be one of the head of department at that time.
Well, maybe I should continue the curcol later on the next post.

Equally important to say, In 2016 too, I  met my boyfriend whom I described in the previous post.  And no, I won't post his photograph here where anyone could see. He's the one who could stand by me when nobody does and never stop reminding me to do good. In short, he's one of the countless blessings I've got from God.

Life has been pretty crazy in 2016, pretty good and pretty bad times, still I am here with a a stronger belief that I can go through it.
So looking forward to any good things to come next, specifically in 2017.
