Babbling Bubbles

You know, sometimes life could be harder when you’re the least favorite among others. Be it your parents, your boss, your teacher. It hurts when you are treated like you’re invisible.

Back in elementary school, I was in this team of 3 (the other 2 are my seniors), joining a competition among Islamic Schools in the city where some of the subjects were things I was actually pretty good at (Arabic and Islamic History—okay don’t laugh). Not a surprise when we finally got the 2nd winner. The bizarre thing was, when we, the team, were supposed to take a victory photo, and suddenly this coach of ours asked me to get out of the frame and replaced me with another relative of his—the kid who didn’t even go to the same school with us! That was so weird on so many levels. I earned that position and he mindlessly made me out of the picture. I know I shouldn’t hold a grudge over something trivial like this but man I can’t deny that that was humiliating. I kept thinking about it until today since what he did still makes no sense to me.

Back then I had this certain ideal term of success. I want to live like this, to have that, to be able to get A, B, C and the list goes on.. and it's all about material possession. At the end of the year I couldn't help but notice that the last two years were critical moments of my life and how it might change the way I view life as a whole, drastically; about what I valued the most in life. I guess some crisis I have been dealing with for a few years, might as well my attempt to live intentionally, one way or another, has humbled me. I realise that what I truly needed to focus was more intangible—new knowledge, health—mentally and physically, new experience, peace of mind, to stay connected with the people I care, to understand myself more, to live intentionally by consuming less and growing vegetables on my own—while the live stock, I leave it to the expert 😂. As simple as not getting swayed by the bird chili inflation, for example. I wanna say I want to fight capitalism but yo, it was already rooted far centuries behind; all I could do is not make demands and always choose to be kind, if that makes sense.

So, what's new in 2023?

Apparently I quit the job I used to love, joined bootcamp, moved to Bandung, enroll in master degree in my 30s.
The strange feeling that I get is, sometimes going to work is like going to school. The most exciting part is I got to meet my friends. I thought, perhaps that's what makes me enjoy my job. At some point I miss them, since I learnt a lot from them, both marriage life or work related. Yet, God is good, now I am surrounded by friends too. It is relaxing to be around people who never force me to have kids (kidding). In addition, being surrounded by Gen-Z friends is exciting and makes me experience a lot of great things too! I love how brilliant, straightforward, and easily get to the point they are. Not to mention the ability of bluntly throwing adulthood question stuff to me. Like, how do I manage to not get pregnant during my study (I know righhttt 😂😆) and how could I be so sure that my husband is the one I want to marry?
Although the feeling of being left behind creeps in whenever they talk about K-Pop and concert stuff 😂
The funny part is when one of them said he followed the Vietnamese Iced Coffee Murder case when he was in middle school, meanwhile I had been a corporate employee at that time 😂😂 I was never more reminded, right on my face, about how old I am by these kids. When one of the kids (1995-1997 born, considered late millennial though) is getting married, I thought, wow she's getting married at such a young age. By young age I mean 27 years old! So it was me on my way to the middle 30s that is much older. Way older 😑 I guess the age gap is still there *brb slathering on more retinol serum so I could blend in 'seamlessly' with my Gen-Z fellas 😆
Imagine how I used to deal with people older than me at my office, and now I am the one the oldest in the room 😂

If anything, Bandung is the city where the coffee shops open from 7 a.m. Everywhere is relatively close compared to Jakarta, or Tangerang to be exact. The food is great (even though sometimes a bit salty to my liking). Even though I am not a fan of seblak (never tried one and never will), I could finish Jukut Goreng in one sitting 😂. To my surprise, the food price compared to Jakarta is relatively the same. Another culture shock was, there are rice bowls and ayam geprek offered everywhere around campus. To me who always have soto ayam or tongseng for lunch (believe me it's my colleague who decide what to eat for lunch—typical corporate slave), ayam geprek is not that tempting 😓

The staying up late is the same but frankly speaking I never got a single migraine again—I did sometime, due to commuting from Bandung to home back and forth. I really enjoy my study here, even though I've been struggling the whole semester 😂 There is no doubt that this is truly what I wanted in life. A part of it was I unconsciously looked for redemption; on how I regret for not being all out during bachelor degree.
So why Bandung? why not overseas?
the answer is: Why bother going overseas when you get a decent education here? studying here is enough for me. Jogja was an appealing alternative at that time, but the curriculum offered was not well suited for my former educational background.

Currently I had the chance to live in Bandung.. after all the educational years I've spent in the most humid, closer to hell kind of city in Indonesia (there were a lot of meme in the internet about this, no joke), I am destined to be here. And to my surprise, what a nice place to live in. I've never been more grateful and try my best not to take it for granted 💪

In the end, I really look forward to 2024. I wish I have more quality time with A. Bless with good health, peace, and happiness throughout the year. Amen.

I might say that 2016 is one of the best year I've ever had. It's been a year of ups and downs indeed, but I would like to admit that I enjoyed any of it. I began my 2016 by staying in Pahawang, Lampung doing snorkeling, watching the sun to set while drinking coconut water right from the coco shells etc etc. Followed by a couple visits to hospital and another series of unfortunate events related to work, I still managed to make some short getaways tho :p.

Mambruk, Anyer - Purwokerto - Ciledug, Cirebon - Yogyakarta - Kalianda, Lampung -

Singapore - KL - Surabaya - Bandung - Semarang - Palembang - Malang - Ponorogo

Let say one of the achievement I couldn't be proud of more was, I finally scored A10-Financial Math module and won a stay-cation voucher at some villa in Bogor because I got the 1st rank in class. Maybe for some people it was easy breezy especially when you able to convert your A-to-B score of financial math in college to get A-10. Then you don't even bother to take exam or extra class to pass A-10.
However, I should take it because I got 'D' on my transcript.
Yes, I repeat, 'D'.
I know it really is a bad score, like, your lecturer try to say that you were too dumb to take the class.
Even my close friends thought that I deserved D score too. I admit that I used to skip some classes due to my double degree but in this case I attended the classes and did all the homeworks, even I joined study club outside the class. The weird thing was, when the final score came up, I and my friends in class of 2010 got D (there were 5 people at the moment, we happened to take junior [2011] financial math class) and students in class of 2011 got various score from A to B.
Well, see the difference?

In addition, the final exam was really difficult so I was 100% sure no one in that class weren't able to do it. I knew later that the exam was taken from PAI* and most of them were from Society of Actuary--which is well known for their no. 1 difficulty level of math so here's the question, how come you expect us to get a good score while the handbook was made by the lecturers themselves and the materials they taught wasn't that far from the handbook either? How come class of 2011 could get A-B score and we, class of 2010 happened to get D ? Clearly you see one of the example of the subjectivity in my Institution.
In contrast, in the middle of 2016 I retook Financial Math class held by PAI* itself and the lecturers are from Gadjah Mada University. He used 'The Theory of Interest' book for the reference and taught very clearly. I bet the ones who got A to B score in my previous class in college don't know how to calculate NPV, reinvestment rate, ammortization, or even annuity in depth.
Once I received my A score transcript, this flashback popped in mind and for instance I can't help the urge to rub it on my friends' face.

It's been 5 years already but I couldn't forget, or even forgive about this. I've been judged unfairly with my friends and lecturers. I was so pissed at the point that I believe there's much better education out there so I decide to take higher degree other than in my previous college. I didn't mean to brag but rather than underline the point about mistreatment I got from my lecturer who was happened to be one of the head of department at that time.
Well, maybe I should continue the curcol later on the next post.

Equally important to say, In 2016 too, I  met my boyfriend whom I described in the previous post.  And no, I won't post his photograph here where anyone could see. He's the one who could stand by me when nobody does and never stop reminding me to do good. In short, he's one of the countless blessings I've got from God.

Life has been pretty crazy in 2016, pretty good and pretty bad times, still I am here with a a stronger belief that I can go through it.
So looking forward to any good things to come next, specifically in 2017.

After graduated few month ago I was like, 'okay, whats next?'

Both of my parents really wants me to continue my degree. Since studying in a higher education is my childhood obsession (hahah), I couldnt say no to that. So I said to them that I would like to, but on one condition: I wont do that unless I get scholarship.

I know, a part of me think I'm throwing away a good chance, why bother if your parents saying that they can take care of ur tuition?

But the other me think different way. Whats the point if I graduate from master degree by self-funding and then try to find a job in a such age? Plus, master degree tuition isnt that cheap, thats the real reason why I insist to get scholarship so I can get rid of what-so-called self funding tuition.

But things didnt go that easy. However, I keep applying overseas scholarships since my third year and you know what I've got?
Nothing.

I spent most of my savings to prepare applications here and there and I've got nothing.

Everybody said I almost get it but in the end it wasnt mine at all.

Depressed. Frustrated.
Low self confidence.

Until one day I hit on a scholar-motivation blog and it said that we have to start somewhere. It could be a job, business, course. Anything.

And I find the answer : Maybe its not the door for me to open yet.
Maybe I have to try other doors, that fits the key I bring.
Maybe God wants me to do something before I continue my study.

So I started applying job and here I am.
Got to work in a large insurance company,
Which provides full scholarship for their employee to pursue higher degree.

I knew God always make the very best plan for me.

Mum's paper is finally published on Science Direct journal.
Big YEAY.
Yea, that international journal that my lecturer always have me open it during the class. That journal that makes my lecturers try to remind their student almost everytime THAT my institution spent most of their yearly income into it.
I wont say it was easy. Because mum always stayed up late to do a lot of revise here and there thousand times and when she got stucked she got me to do it. If the fix draft didnt satisfied the reviewer's point of view it will get more poppin comment ballons on the draft then she almost gave up and gave it to some experts in town but even the experts couldn't fix it. So, the draft will end up on my hands again.
Haha.
With my limited english knowledge I didnt think it will be finished on time.
But she finally made it!
Mum is really incredibly genius.
How I wish I get a bit larger portion of her intelligence to me.

I've ever said on my post that being able to compete in PIMNAS (National Scientific Student Week--correct me if I'm wrong) is one of my dream.
Some achievement to die for.
Call me drama queen, but its really a prestigious competition here in my college.

I know that I have to let it go when I graduated last march,
because when you dont have a student card means that you dont have a chance anymore,
and,
I know that I didn't have to take over everything;
I know that I should've get my juniors to do what they should do: make reports and discuss the research with my supervisor and come to monev simulation 1, 2, 3 1/2, 3 and present my research in front of reviewers and make SPJ
so they have their rights to share the money equally.

but the fact is all that tiring stuffs are done by ME. And its all really paid off; we got the chance to go there.
then they appear and talk shit behind me that I dont share the money equally and that must be me who go to PIMNAS and blah blah blah.

How dare they talk about the money when they did almost nothing for the research?

I would love to go to PIMNAS but there's no my name on my own research just because I have graduated. The fact that my own research presented by some people who dont give a shit about it and the fact that they didn't even feel grateful that they will go to Semarang and get some 'treatment' and meet great people from all over Indonesia really pissed me off.

Enough said.

Some students will be excited welcoming a new semester after a long break,
some of it will be worry about facing abundant tasks or finishing their thesis,

... ME?
worrying about how my schizophrenic aunty wont let me go outside or worse, she wants to follow me everywhere, even when I have to take mid exam.

There was one day that I had 3 identity in one hand.

I had to be Windia, my junior in college.
It was a hectic time like I always did, I went to my ex-college to present my research that I conduct in front of the judge but because I have to graduate earlier so I got my junior to replace me AND because she didn't know anything about my research, I had to be her to be able to present the research perfectly. Not to mention that I deliberately chose her as my substitute because she pretty much looks like me. My friends was always mistaken about  calling me windi* during her first year.

After the presentation done, I had to cross an island to take TOEFL test at one of university I never go to, as Irma Y. I wanna help someone to pass a certain score so that he can graduate on time but I ended up helping everyone on that class (lol) because the test itself was not that secure like my university always did.
Something that I have to make it clear that I didn't earn money to do that. Put an emphasis on it.

The thing is, sometimes 'being anybody else' to make something
done properly, or to help someone is important.

Risk taker or rule breaker? name it.

P.S: But then again, I didn't realize that what I've done to make everything'w done properly always beat me up in the end. Gotta tell you later.

That feeling when someone really underestimate me, in a different way ..

WOW.

So the best revenge I could ever do is by proving it.
May Allah always bless me along the way ..

Adakah kesempatan untuk saya,
dengan otak dan kantung pas-pasan,
bisa mengenyam pendidikan,
atau minimal--menghirup udara di luar tanah air?

Ah, semoga ini bukan sekedar angan.
