Babbling Bubbles

Disclaimer, this post might be triggering. This writing is dedicated to reflect and further evaluate my life style choice. Apparently, I have been recklessly functioning, not being.

1. This year marks the first time I have gotten unfavorable results from a blood test. Well, this might be biased since I took the test at a drugstore—the quick kind where they prick the fingertip and stuff, not the proper test lab—this is why I missed being employed 😂😢. The last time I took medical check up on 2022, the results were fine. Even though I never eat organ meats nor drink alcohol, I admit my habit in having milk coffee (with syrup added) daily was all to blame. In addition, I also found myself enjoying red meat more than I was before. Who can resist iga bakar si jangkung? 😝 to me personally I prefer jangkung to warung boma though. Not to mention the times when I went to the campus canteen and processed meat like gepuk was all that’s left to feast. The way I stock up beef stew for 3 portions in a single delivery (to get cheaper price, of course) since it is easier to heat up using rice cooker.. (I'm a sucker for soupy, broth meal). Plus, my daily intake of red meat always risen during periods, because it is the only way to ease the migraine I got. However, taking supplement won’t be enough at my case.

2. I have been into running just like any other people at my age (to maintain my fitness level) and doing strength training to train my muscle (use it or lose it, they said) but the flare I got from gout prevents me to do so 😔

3. My period cycle was never been on the track (was there even any cycle to begin with, I honestly don’t know). It come and go as it likes. And yep I have consult it to obgyn and only been told to manage stress—something I have not mastered yet) but starting around 3 years ago I bleed heavily. Like, I always have to wash my bedsheet myself because of it 😭 What I am trying to address is the symptoms—the heavy migraine, the bloating, the constipation, the insomnia (I strangely find myself harder to sleep at night before I got my period),  and the emotional roller coaster it got me before I actually bleed.

4. I almost bald. My hair line is pulled back 2 cm than before. If I were to get paes again, the make up artist won’t even bother to shave the front hair, she could just draw it straight 😭

5. I have reached the age where I can’t really handle nasi Padang anymore. The last time I had it, I ended up throwing up like crazy just ten minutes later. The same burning sensation hits my chest every time I eat stir-fried noodles. I guess now I can only choose one: greasy, flour-based, or spicy—definitely not all three together.

6. I should be more careful of what I eat. There was this one time where I have smoothies, burger, Taiwanese dessert, and cold brew in less than 5 hours. The result? I woke up at 1 AM throwing up for more than 3 times. Who on earth gulp 3 different drinks in 5 hours Za? It honestly felt like some invisible force was trying to pull everything out of my stomach. It was horrible that I actually asked myself, "Is this it? Am I about to die?" 😫 I have developed this kind of illness since a little—puking after eating or drinking even plain water—thanks to my irregular eating habits. That night was another episode of it. I managed to stay conscious to book a doctor appointment at campus clinic that morning.

I think all these unhealthy lifestyle (adequate sleep, poor diets) lead me to this exact condition and currently I am trying hard to fix it. Wish me luck ✊

My ex room mate LOVES walking. Every weekend, she could walk from Harmoni to GBK, back and forth—something that I did not really get, at all. What's the fun with sucking up all the pollution; while the morning heat was another thing to complain about.

But recently I changed my mind.

I used to walk a lot during weekdays due to commuting, that's why the first month moving to Bandung, my body was aching for no actual reason. One day my friend suggested we take a walk at Taman Hutan Raya, and by far it was the highlight of the year. The clean, fresh air and the green scenery were things I never enjoyed for a veeery long time. It reminded me that I got ispa due to how bad Jakarta's air quality was--it was kinda funny though. when I saw the doctor, I told him that the cough suddenly stopped once I entered the hospital (on one hand I did not want to be a covid suspect to my coworker, on the other hand I did not want the doctor to assume that I made up something just to get Surat Izin Dokter either 😂).

First thing that motivated me to 'hike' there along with a friend was to try out the famous perkedel, which, unfortunately, was closed due to the pathway renovation. But we kept going until we were that close to the Maribaya gate. If I let my intrusive thought on what-if-we-just come-home-by-grabcar-once-we-reached-the-gate win, we would've left the motorbike at Tahura entrance 😂

For the following weekend, my friend and I took a different route, by choosing Gasibu as a meeting point. Instead of going up north, I decided to walk down the south. I found life is somehow strange, I 'stranded' to another Ir. H. Juanda. But hey, how is that possible that both RM Sulawesi are located in Juanda Bandung and Central Jakarta? 😬 #TMI

To my surprise, Gasibu was always packed with people—I don't know but people here seemed to be highly motivated to do sport, which amazes me in a way. Yet later got debunked by my friend; she made it clear that the neighborhood that I live was actually the jogging route. It was like the weekend is for going out in the morning to get fit, nothing else. Honestly I can't tell though if it was the locals or Jakartans who currently took a short getaway here, but whatever. Instead of joining the crowd, we mindlessly walk and most of the time getting involved into a deep talk about our future.

And that is how it become a habit.

I promised myself to enjoy Bandung as much as I could, despite the struggle during the course. Apparently I felt like being thrown, once again, to the bachelor era—drowned in the project and the task and the quiz and the exam, and resulting in the allergy to rise. My eyes was once swollen. The sudden itch, reddened face and hands that sometimes appear whenever I was on the edge, were a subtle alarm to remind me to take a break.

Warung Ubi Ibu: finally got a chance to try this. Please don't skip the cake!

My must-go-to: Cwimie Jl Lombok.

Fun fact, I know this place for the first time when A was the one who had important business here and happened to leave me at a cafe at Jl. Progo, and I didn't feel like to have lunch there. I want to eat like locals! So I searched on google and I found this place. I walked there and it was packed (lunch time) so I ordered take outs and went back to the hotel. On the next day I forced A to have this cwimie again before we left Bandung 😂😂 From then on I became a loyal customer 😋

This one is Mie Bangka at Bakmi Upami, our option whenever Kopi Moyan's queue was long. If only this place opened earlier, though.

A was once said that my immune booster was something that requires a lot of money. But hey, I confidently say that morning walks was my 'cheap immune booster' actually—depend on how much the food cost me though 👀. There was some time I did morning walk without company, and it was like going on a mini adventure, unconsciously memorise the Cihapit-Siliwangi area that was once confusing for me (don't get me started on how much I got lost 😂), and discover many things as well.

People in mineral water ads say we have to drink water eight glass a day, and apparently we could not agree more with that. Water is essential for our health because as anybody knows, our body consists of about 60% water. Plain water brings so many advantages to our digestion and all until the point that if we consume it on a right amount, it could help us lose some weight. It is always better to substitute a high calorie beverage into a zero calorie one. Before I tell you more about something that most people already know, just let me get started.

In my case, I used to drink a LOT of water to prevent me from starving (thank you Merry Riana for the tip!) back then in college and somehow this habit continue until now.
After I wake up, I drink. Before I eat, I drink. After I eat, I drink. When I feel sleepy in working hour, I drink. When I find it difficult to concentrate, I drink. When I browse something on the internet, I drink. When I hang out in the mall, I have to drink a lot too (which I believe my husband seemed bothered with this).
I bring my tumbler literally everywhere I go even in my own house. When I go to bed, I bring it to the bedroom. When I am cooking, I put it near me so I can reach it whenever I want. When I am in the living room watching TV, I put it next to me. It is like I am obsessed with it.

This habit go worse when I get cough and flu. I can take more than 4L liquids per day, which also means I spend half of my days in the restroom. You know, when your throat is tickling and the best way to deal with it is by taking a lot of liquids. I will turn into a cranky b*tch if I drink less—just ask my husband, he is the living proof 😂. In result, it is rare to find my lips chapped because that is one the benefit of having it enough. And for the record, my medical check up result is fine, I got 0,59 for my creatinine test.

Do not get me wrong, I drink colored liquids too—most of them are bubble tea (hazelnut chocolate milk tea with pearl is my all time favorite!) and thai tea, since it is the only colored, extra cal + diabetes type 2 ish-drink I could make at home.
On top of it all, I like my water plain and sometimes I do not mind if it is warm but never cold one. I hope that this drinking habit remains the same over the years 😆🤞🏻
